It’s so true, isn’t it?  But I can’t take credit for the great title.  My friend Karen coined the phrase today deep in the heart of Aldi.  As she put it, “we spend the first fifty years of our lives buying things and the rest of our lives trying to get rid of it.”  Why, why, why?  Nowadays nothing brings me greater joy than dumping a few more superfluous things into the Goodwill bag.  Aaaah!

So why do we own all this crap, I mean, stuff?  I used to feel like I’d accomplished something when I shopped for all the “what if” occasions that were surely going to arise in the near future.  Now I’m so proud of myself when I managed to emerge from a store empty-handed.  Then add the move looming on the horizon.  Are we really going to PAY someone to move that 1,200 miles?  It’s almost like re-buying something when you commit to moving it or so I’m trying to convince myself.

Hey, if Curling can be an Olympic sport, why not Purging?

I’m hoping to make Varsity!
