Isn’t it gorgeous? Wow! Ah, Switzerland!
But no, this is actually Lake Moomah in Bath County, right here in Virginia!
Earlier this week Sam and I went on a media tour with photographer friends that we will not soon forget, thankfully so. Ah, we were guests of “Natural Retreats” in Hot Springs, the heart of Bath County, Virginia. We had been to Hot Springs many times over the years to go to the Homestead, thanks to a very generous friend, other media trips, and plain ole family vacations in the Alleghenies.
This time was different. It was the very first time we had ever been to Bath County without darkening the door of the Homestead at least one time. Of course, I had my doubts at first because we have such a strong sentimental attachment to the Homestead. What else is there in Bath County? How could a trip there be complete without gandering at the Great Hall? Much to my delight I was blown away by the sheer beauty of Bath County’s winding country roads, its pristine landscapes, and incredible mountain views. We loved the many outdoorsy activities, as well as the outstanding customer service provided by Natural Retreats.
If you have never heard of Natural Retreats, it is new to the area and to the US. In fact they have only been in business in Hot Springs for the past year. Their Storefront located in “downtown” Hot Springs has only been open since May, boasting the very FIRST Starbucks in town. That place is downright happenin’! For a minute there I thought we were in San Francisco. From that location they plan lots of upscale outdoor adventures — mountain biking, kayaking and hiking.
In addition, Natural Retreats has 20 private homes that they rent out (including this phenomenal one below.) In addition, there is a bed and breakfast available as well as your very own log cabin with access to some amazing trout fishing.
Here is where we happily called home for a few days… Did I mention how happy we were?
And they also have gorgeous property at South Fork Lodge in Snake River, Idaho, as well as lots of other stunning locations in the UK and Ireland. Check out www.NaturalRetreats.com and feast your eyes! Maybe someday you can feast them in person!
Enjoy!
