Heat Wave!

What the heck is going on here? It’s over 90 degrees in APRIL? This must be what life is like along the Equator. I wanted to go up the attic today to get my shorts out of whatever God forsaken box they are in, but it was just too dang hot to even go up there. I was lucky that I had squirreled away some shorts for Sam in size 3T from some various and sundry yard sales last year or he would be still wearing his corduroys, sweating his brains out, and and taking copious notes for his therapist to analyze when he is 25. That being said, I’m still reluctant to put those cords away for good because you just never know around here what is going to happen next.

Heck, a hailstorm wouldn’t surprise me at this point. That would be another good one for the therapist, huh? I can see the book now “Shorts, Corduroys, and a Hailstorm – How Sam’s Mommy Ruined His Life.” As long as neither Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction psycho) nor Meryl Streep (the devil in “The Devil Wears Prada”) play me in the movie, I’ll be OK with it if a few royalties come my way that is.

Despite the heat, it has been incredibly nice and sunny outside. It’s the kind of sunny day that makes you feel happy just to be alive and wonder why you have ever been sad in your life. So on this gorgeous Saturday morning Sam and I set out for the Mommy & Me yard sale. For the first time ever, I rolled the car windows down because the air was so sweet smelling that I didn’t want to miss a breath.

Lo and behold by the time we got home from our brief yet highly successful yard sale romp, Sam’s eyes were blown up like little balloons. Ooops! Bad Mommy moment! (I have lost count of what number this particular failure is, probably in the thousands by now.) I realize now, much too late, that having the windows rolled down first thing in the morning was one of the worst things I could have done for the little dude’s raging allergies.

I am not so good with the whole allergy thing since I have never had to deal with them before. (I have plenty of other ailments to make me miserable, though, don’t you worry.) Then we pretty much had to try and stay inside the rest of the weekend even though the sunny skies beckoned. C’est la vie. Seriously, though, who am I kidding? It was too hot to anything but pant out there in the heat and that gets old fast.
