It’s Good to be Sam

Sam had a pretty good Saturday all right.  In fact, for a six-year-old boy, it was pretty close to perfect.

8 AM – We took a family trip to Dunkin Donuts for a chocolate-sprinkled donut.

9 AM – Sam and Daddy Mac went to Target so Sam could buy a new Lego Racer kit with his saved-up allowance money.

10 AM – Daddy Mac took Sam to buy some baseball gear for his first time playing this spring.

12 PM – Sam put together his new Lego Racer monster truck AND had a take-out McDonald’s Happy Meal.

1 PM We were off to his friend’s Elizabeth’s birthday party at Little Gym where the kids bounced away to their heart’s delight.

2 PM We left the party early to go to a special Lego building activity at the Tuckahoe Library.  (This was the first bit of sadness because he really wanted to see Elizabeth open his present which was – of course — a new girly Lego kit!  Plus he was missing out on the cake — a monumental sacrifice!)  At the library he built two creations that are on display there along with all of the other kids’ creations.  We also checked out a book on the history of Legos, a DVD on Space, and some Tintin adventures.

3 PM Went to Chick Fil-A drive-thru for an ice cream cone since he missed the birthday cake at the party.  Yes, I am a sucker.

3:30 PM  Back at home he played with his new Lego racer monster truck.  Daddy Mac even made a ramp to do jumps.

5:30 PM  Just when it seemed the day could not get any better, it was time for the ultra-cool BOY babysitter!  Like a hazy daydream come true, Jimmy arrived carrying a HUGE brand-new Lego Racer set!  He had gotten when he was a little kid but never made it.  Needless to say, what a jackpot for the Saminator!  They had a great time building it, and Jimmy even gave it to him to keep.  Plus it is motorized with its own remote control.  I only hope Sam turns out to be even half as nice a teenager as Jimmy is.  What a quality kid!

                                                       Unadulterated Lego joy!

Here he is hugging the RC!  Alas, the poor Lego monster truck from earlier in the day is long forgotten.  And Louise is hiding wherever she can find cover so she doesn’t get run over.

All in all a perfect day for the record books!  So now if Sam ever complains that he never does anything fun, I’ll have this blog entry to show him.
