Attention to all young builders out there and your dedicated teams of chauffeurs/parents/bodyguards. Hear ye, hear ye, here is a well-kept secret now on the spill! Amble on over to Lowe’s on Saturday mornings from 10-11 for their super-duper-uper Build and Grow Program. We have been twice now and have two well-made wooden toys to show for it — a cool monster truck (with two paper cars to crush) and an old-fashioned ball-and-cup game!
Even better, the Saminator has an adorable kid-sized Lowes work apron and mini safety goggles of his very own. The kids also get a special badge for each project they do, so Sam is up to two now and proud as can be. After wrestling with a hotel sewing kit trying to get them on the dang apron, I succumbed to the pressure. From the dark recesses of our back hall, I unearthed some of that stitch witchery stuff, which is basically double-sided tape. You put the tape between the patch and the apron and then iron it for a few seconds several times in a row. It melts, and – poof! – your kid thinks you’re a rock star!
Ah, but the best part is — drumroll please — it is all my favorite flavor, FREE! I’m sure they make up for it in spades with all the random and sundry hardware things people pick up at the store after the build-a-thon is over, but what’s not to love? If that is not win-win, I don’t know what is!
And for those out there who are allergic to these types of projects like myself (ahem!), don’t veer off to Dunkin Donuts instead. The kits are surprising really well made — no splinters (yet anyway). They are quite easy to build with excellent directions, even for the direction-challenged (me). Seriously if I can do it, anyone can!!
See you on Saturday! This week we’re building a UFO! How cool is that?
