Today was Day Three of Summer Vacay 2013. On this great day Sam learned how to make toast. He was mighty proud of his big bad self. At first I didn’t have the heart to tell him that the toaster has to be plugged in order for it to work — and then you have to actually push the lever thingie down before it does anything. Life is a journey.
In celebration of his achievement, he proceeded to eat an entire box of “French Toaster Sticks,” even carrying around some as “emergency rations” as we explored Hollywood Cemetery. As a result we did not starve to death during our two-hour visit. Check “toast” off the Bucket List!
Delirious on a sugar high from his Eggo French Toaster Sticks eat-athon, he started to get philosophical about his new love. It was like manna from Heaven. (According to the Old Testament this bread rained down daily for the Jews to eat after fleeing Egypt.) Could manna possibly taste as yummy as his cinnamon French Toaster Sticks? No way. It’s just not possible, not even for wafers made with honey.
Did the Jews ever say, “Leggo my Manna?” No, they did not, at least as far as we know. But people (like Sam for example) do say, “Leggo my Eggo.” I bet he is hoping that the French Toaster Sticks will be raining from the sky like manna come 6 AM tomorrow. I don’t think that is going to happen, but I don’t want to be informed that it didn’t happen until at least 7 AM. On the bright side at least he will be anxious to go to the grocery store with me, another first.
This of course all transpired not long after Sam ate not one, but two, donuts at the swim team’s “Donut Day.” Way to show the team spirit, boy!
All in all, he was really proud that he did not eat anything healthy today. I can vouch for both:
(1) that he did not eat anything healthy today; and
(2) that he was extremely proud of that fact.
As for healthy eating, dare to dream. In the words of Scarlett O’Hara, “Tomorrow is another day!” One thing is for certain — let there be toast.
