It’s Labor Day today.  On Labor Day we aren’t supposed to labor at all.  It’s time to slack off as a tribute to the last day of summer and the beginning of a busy fall.  As Alannis Morissette would say, “And isn’t it ironic?  Don’t you think?”  It really should be National Lay-Around-And-Do-Nothing Day or something like that or even No-Labor Day.  Even though it has been years since I personally went to school, thank God, I can’t help getting excited on Labor Day.  It’s as if everyone is on the verge of a new beginning with a new backpack and a new lunchbox.  And don’t forget the new shoes, too!

Sam is devastated that the summer is almost over.  Must admit I’m a little sad, too.  Today he just wants to stay home to make the time go slower.  And this is coming from the boy who had an awesome school year last year and has complained about being bored this summer.  Go figure.  Whenever the topic of school does come up, he says gravely, “Can we just not talk about it?”  Well, boy, it’s coming whether you like it or not!

But we did have a great summer, eating ice cream (quickly before it melts),

riding some crazy claw in the name of fun,
(Loretta Sherwood again)
 making his own water park,
visiting New Mexico and Colorado,
visiting Great Sand Dunes National Park,
visiting Mesa Verde National Park,
riding the Durango to Silverton Railroad
going to Washington,
Sure, we got on each other’s nerves from time to time, but it was fun for the most part, right?

And Daddy Mac and I managed to get out and have a good time….

Bye-bye, Summer 2013!   Welcome, Fall 2013!
Enjoy your No-Labor Day!
