The Civil War began and ended during the month of April in 1861 and 1865, so April is the perfect time for this announcement. (Cue the drummer boys now.) My third historical fiction novel will focus on Elizabeth Van Lew, a fierce and cunning Union spy from Church Hill in Richmond. This wealthy spinster ran the South’s most effective spy ring, reporting directly to General Grant. She also organized a massive outbreak of Union prisoners-of-war from the dreaded (and aptly named) Libby Prison. There is no official release date yet, but my working title is:THE UNION SPYMISTRESS: ELIZABETH VAN LEW OF RICHMOND
Researching Miss Van Lew and learning about Richmond during the Civil War has been fascinating. Here I am meeting General Grant who has aged quite well.
And here I was checking out some local battlefields.
